(Drug) Lord Have Mercy: United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime
The Sinaloa Cartel is one of the most powerful transnational organized crime groups in the world, known for its notorious drug trafficking and money laundering web originating in Culiacán, Mexico. The purpose of this international organization is not only to carry out illegal activities — such as the aforementioned narcotrafficking, human trafficking, murder, money laundering, and assault — but also creating a mechanism of self-defense and protection for their own kind. The way they keep their criminal operations in business is with a strategic plan that includes investment in stores, deals with authorities, and infiltration of their members. Committing these crimes successfully, gave the Cartel the opportunity to diversify its operations and reach at least seventeen countries. In the eyes of the world, the Cartel is a criminal organization that must be prosecuted, although it is widely known that some governments directly cooperate with the organization or are indulgent with their actions.

Diego Balda
Chair
Hi everyone! I’m Diego Balda and I have the pleasure of being your chair for “(Drug) Lord Have Mercy: United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime”. Currently, I am a rising-sophomore majoring in Biomedical Engineering on the Pre-Med track. I have participated in Model UN for six years, beginning in the high school circuit, and now the UMiami team. Outside of MUN, I love a good beach day, exploring hidden gems in Miami with friends, biking, and sleeping. In the conference though, I will be with you every step of the way, doing everything I can to support and lead you to the best possible outcome. I wish you the best of luck and for you to have an amazing experience at 305MUN. If you all have any inquiries about the committee, please feel free to email me at dab404@miami.edu
