Iffy Infrastructure:

Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners, 2024

Osei Allen

Crisis Director

Vibrant nightlife. Beautiful beaches. An incredible food scene. While the “Magic City” boasts a plethora of appealing features that make it the place to be, such pros don’t outweigh glaring concerns over income inequality, transportation, and homelessness that Miamians encounter on a daily basis. Set in present-day Miami, this committee delves into factors such as high living costs, a low-wage economy, traffic congestion, and other significant quality-of-life issues that have contributed to a notable exodus of citizens from Miami-Dade County in recent years. Additional matters to consider also include heavy housing cost burdens for low to middle income residents, the impact of climate change on infrastructure, and the implications of a staggering wealth gap in the region.

As representatives of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, you have the hefty task of sufficiently addressing the aforementioned problems via meaningful legislation and policy making. However, your job doesn’t end there. Seeing as you are elected to represent the interests of your constituents, you are also responsible for responding to the various concerns voiced by the residents of all 13 districts within Miami-Dade County. With the use of ordinances, resolutions, and each other, it will be up to you all to decide whether the future of Miami is as bright as its year-round sunshine or as cloudy as its randomly occurring storm clouds.
